Let's set the clock back, say....14 years??

So...where were you 14 years ago today? If you're like most of us, you probably have no clue. I, however, remember this day quite well. At about this time I was walking up the steps to the Atrium with a friend or two to watch some of my most favorite bands play that evening. Back of Dave played one of their last shows ever in Springfield that night. Nobody had a clue this was one of the last times we would ever see them play here. I think they did one more show at the YWCA here later the following year and that was it. Up until several years ago this flyer was the only physical piece of evidence I had of this show aside from the experience which will remain permanently burned into my memory. After goofing around online one day, I found a guy who had TONS of old NIL8, Back of Dave and Fragile Porcelain Mice stuff that I didn't have, including this little "gem" I am making available to you all here today. I made him a reasonable offer for all of his stuff, and lucky for me...he obliged. By clicking on the link below, you will be able to let your ears experience exactly what I and many others did 14 years ago today -- Back of Dave's full set! This is a soundboard recording, but still has some limitations and problems with volume levels during the first song, but for the most part it is still pretty enjoyable to listen to. I DO plan on doing some work on this recording in the future to clean things up and adjust levels, but that will be a little further down the road. In the meantime, ENJOY!

Back Of Dave -- "SUITS TOUR" 1994

For those of you who weren't there, ever wonder what Back of Dave was like live? Check out this video from YouTube! A little rough, but it's there and that's all that matters! This is from the "Suits Tour" (all of the members wore suits each night they played) in 1994. This was recorded at Bastilles in St. Louis, MO. They made a stop in Springfield at Skank Skates a couple of days after this show. I THINK I have a photo from that show somewhere. I'll see what I can find. ENJOY!!

Back of Dave -- "Dirty Boy" 7" (AKA -- "1 TUNNR" 7")

Ok, folks...time for a little more Back of Dave! This one dates back to 1993 and was released on Better Days Records. This is known as the "Dirty Boy" 7" or sometimes referred to as the "1 TUNNR" 7" (due to the license plate on the truck in the photo). Pretty much impossible to find this one anymore. Trust me...I've looked! This is one of the Back of Dave releases I regetfully never picked up. I remember seeing it sitting on the merch table at a Back of Dave show at the Beach House, and instead opted for the Back of Dave/Prozac Memory split cassette tape and a T-Shirt that I still have, but can no longer wear as it's REALLY torn up. Maybe I'll post a picture of the shirt here soon. This is kind of a funny release, because it was also released on cassette with an extra song, "Concrete Socks" according to Mr. Eric Perez. So...I am including "Concrete Socks" on here as well.

The 7" was pressed with "Dirty Boy" on side A
"Eyepoker" and "Sniffle" on side B

1. Dirty Boy
2. Eyepoker
3. Sniffle
4. Concrete Socks (bonus track on cassette release)

Stay tuned for a little Back of Dave "surprise" on December 29th!!

Fagalonius P. Hector -- "...b"

This is the 2nd and final release from Fagalonius P. Hector, simply titled, "...b". This was self-released in 1995 and I purchased this tape at what was supposed to be the last Hector show at the Lake Springfield Beach House, but the band did not play and was scratched off the flyer. I still have this flyer SOMEWHERE. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a killer show too: Back of Dave, ingot, and POSSIBLY Ostrich Syndrome played this show. Anyhow, here it is in all it's glory!

1. Greenfield
2. Wicked Awesome
3. Gunsmoke
4. Hellzapoppin
5. Superior
6. Hospitality
7. W
I've also "bundled" this one up to make it easier to download. Just download the .rar file. You'll need winrar if you don't have it installed on your computer already. It's a free download...just do a google search for it. Works just like a ZIP file. If you have any questions or problems, get a hold of me. I'll help ya out!

Fagalonius P. Hector

Right off the bat, I'd like to give a big thanks to Galen Wasem for giving me the go ahead to post this stuff for you all!

This is the first tape ever released by Fagalonius P. Hector. They played during the early 1990's in Springfield and did some regional shows as well (Chicago, shows in Indiana, etc). Members were from Springfield and surrounding areas as far as I understand, and featured William Whitney on guitar and vocals, Galen Wasem on guitar, Karen Scanlan on bass and Trevor Moore on drums. They played a lot of shows at the Beach House, Skank Skates, VFW, house shows, etc. They played a big part in the Springfield scene during that time and I know Trevor at least went on to play with the Goofs (who will be featured later on here). I don't think any of the other members were in any other bands after Hector disbanded in 1995 (?), They released this tape as well as a second one titled, "...b" which I will feature on here as well.

Enjoy!!

Back of Dave

Ok folks, so here's the first installment. I am featuring "Side Dave" from the Back of Dave/Prozac Memory split LP. This was released in 1994 on SubFusc Records. It was only made available on 12" vinyl or cassette tape, and yes...I have both. I'm a nerd like that. Anyhow, here's the 5 songs Back of Dave (Alton, IL) contributed for this release. FANTASTIC BAND!!! They played in Springfield a lot back in the early-mid 1990's at the Beach House, Skank Skates, On Broadway, the Atrium (I have a live Atrium show I may put up later...), YWCA, etc. Always a fantastic time when they came to town. Rumor has it these fellas may start playing again. There's been a couple of reunion shows in St. Louis, MO at the Rocket Bar since they split up, but that's about it so far.

A little bit about what I plan to accomplish here

Hey people! I got inspired today from another blog called Toxicbreed's Funhouse. I found out about this from a local hardcore band called Big Mouth. The Toxicbreed's Funhouse blog features free downloads of numerous band's demos, etc so you can check 'em out and if you like what you hear, links to the band's websites so you can buy stuff from them. Well...I've been wanting to find a good way to feature downloads of old local band's stuff and always seem to end up failing miserably at this endeavor. I THINK this will be a better way to share this with everyone, so let's see what happens. Stay tuned!
